Prime Minister Albin Kurti, who is visiting the United States, said the Government of the Republic of Kosovo is committed to providing support in every possible way and with all the means at its disposal to help overturn the Kosovo Specialist Chambers’ verdict against former KLA leaders, which he described as legally and morally unjust and historically and factually inaccurate.
“Agreement on a state strategy for the most appropriate and effective response to the first-instance verdict is necessary, both in assisting the legal teams during the appeals process and at the diplomatic level.
“We will cooperate with our international allies, we will work continuously to defend our liberation struggle against Serbia’s propaganda and, at the same time, to shed light on the massacres and other crimes committed by Serbia in Kosovo, which official Belgrade, more than 27 years after the end of the war, is still trying to conceal,” Kurti wrote on Facebook.
He said that on the first day of his stay in New York, he had the pleasure of taking part in an inspiring discussion, “Between Here and Home,” with young members of the Albanian diaspora in the United States, organized by three Albanian-American youth groups: ZANI, F’Oda and the Columbia University Albanian Society.
“Alongside colleagues from the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, our delegation also includes the Mayor of Presheva, Ardita Sinani, and MP Shaip Kamberi.
“We discussed a wide range of topics, including economic growth of 5.4% in the first quarter of this year, as well as the reduction in unemployment from 26% to 10% during our time in government. We also discussed the need for further improvements in the integrity and performance of the judicial system, which continues to be the subject of criticism in international reports, including that of the European Commission.
“It is essential for young people to contribute to strengthening gender equality and promoting cooperation among Albanians across all the countries of the Western Balkans, as well as around the world,” Kurti added.
