The creation of local associations for the protection of the territory and the establishment of a fund to support them are among the initiatives presented by Prime Minister Edi Rama during the “Flasim” podcast, where he spoke about tourism development and environmental protection.
According to Rama, local communities will be able to create associations that will cooperate with the Ministry of Environment to identify and report problems in their areas in a timely manner.
These structures will focus on issues such as waste management, forest clearing and fire prevention, as well as identifying illegal construction and illegal logging.
“We have started inviting communities to create associations for the protection of the territory, which will take on the responsibility of liaising with the Ministry of Environment. We will try to create a fund to support this non-profit initiative,” Rama stated.
The Prime Minister described the initiative as a form of volunteering and cooperation between communities and institutions, aimed at protecting local areas and natural resources.
“Everyone has their own job, but together, within a certain area, they take care of it by reporting in time when there is a problem with forest clearing that makes it more vulnerable to fires, when waste needs to be removed, or when there is a need to stop unauthorized development and illegal logging,” he said.
Rama cited the Shala River as an example, describing it as an important tourism asset that must be protected from environmental damage.
According to him, the more direct involvement of communities in monitoring and protecting their areas is intended to help preserve nature and minimize damage that may be caused by fires and other natural disasters.
