Interior Minister Ervin Demo and State Police Director General Skënder Hita inspected the management of passenger flows and the work of Border Police units at Tirana International Airport.
During the inspection, Demo stated that 9.2 million tourists entered Albania during the first eight months of the year, while around 1.7 million tourist arrivals were recorded in August alone.
The minister stressed that the increase in the number of visitors requires maximum commitment from border authorities to ensure security and process passengers as quickly as possible. According to him, technology is playing an increasingly important role in this process, with more than 3 million passengers processed through the e-Gate system.
“We expect the number of tourists to increase, which means higher passenger flows and more work for the police forces. August was an exceptional month, with 1.7 million tourists. More than 3 million passengers have been processed through the e-Gate system,” Demo said.
Meanwhile, State Police Director General Skënder Hita stated that, alongside managing passenger flows, border authorities are continuing their efforts to identify and combat cross-border crime.
According to him, the authorities have identified cases of cross-border crime and have followed the necessary procedures to hold those responsible accountable.
“Border services have also remained focused on combating crime and cross-border criminal activity,” Hita stated.
