EU Ambassador to Albania Sofia Moreira de Sousa reaffirmed the European Union’s support for the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK).
She described SPAK’s work as essential to strengthening the rule of law in Albania.
Moreira de Sousa held her first meeting with SPAK head Klodjan Braho. She stressed the need for an independent and efficient institution to fight organized crime and high-level corruption.
“I reaffirmed the EU’s continued and unwavering support for an independent and efficient SPAK. SPAK’s work against organized crime and high-level corruption is essential to strengthening the rule of law in Albania,” the EU ambassador said.
She also highlighted the importance of concrete results. She said progress in the fight against organized crime and corruption remains a key part of Albania’s path toward EU membership.
“Further achieving concrete results in the fight against organized crime and corruption is a key element of Albania’s progress toward EU membership,” she said.
