The high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly began on Tuesday, September 22, at the UN headquarters in New York. The General Debate runs from September 22 to 26. It will continue on September 28. Heads of state, heads of government and senior representatives from member states will attend. The United Nations expects about 130 heads of state and government to attend the high-level week in person.
Prime Minister Edi Rama is also in New York for the General Assembly. He is expected to attend the opening of the General Debate. He will address the gathering. Meanwhile, his agenda includes official receptions and high-level events. He will also meet political and economic representatives and officials from international organisations.
The high-level week comes as the international community faces several global crises and challenges. Discussions will focus on wars and conflicts, climate change, economic and social inequalities, artificial intelligence, and international peace and security. In addition, the UN agenda includes high-level meetings on climate and a just transition, sea-level rise, pandemic prevention and preparedness, and sustainable development.
