Croatian authorities have released Bajram Bajrami, who had been arrested on the basis of an international arrest warrant issued by Serbia. He was accused of committing war crimes while serving as a member of the Kosovo Liberation Army.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Donika Gërvalla took the necessary institutional steps by sending an official letter to her Croatian counterpart, Damir Habijan, and the relevant authorities.
She called for the immediate release of the Kosovo citizen, while also raising concerns over Serbia’s use of arrest warrants against citizens of Kosovo.
The issue was also addressed during a phone call between Minister Gërvalla and her Croatian counterpart. Gërvalla maintained that citizens of the Republic of Kosovo cannot be held hostage to such claims by Serbia and that cases involving alleged offences committed on the territory of Kosovo fall under the jurisdiction of the justice institutions of the Republic of Kosovo.
