The exhibition “A Life Between Film and Painting” by artist Kleo Nini opened last night at the Tirana Art Gallery.
Curator Genti Gjikola leads the exhibition, which will remain open until June 30. The event was held with support from the Central State Film Archive.
The exhibition presents the life and artistic journey of Kleo Nini, who moved between painting and cinematography throughout his career. It explores the intersection between real landscapes and the imagined world of film.
The display brings together multiple artistic practices, including painting, drawing, costume design, and film posters. Although the mediums vary, the exhibition highlights one constant element: Nini’s strong belief in the drawn line as a direct way of understanding the world.
Kleo Nini graduated in painting from the Higher Institute of Arts in Tirana in 1968. He later worked for decades at the “Shqipëria e Re” film studio.
He worked alongside some of the most important figures of Albanian visual culture in the second half of the 20th century.
His work included filming locations and fieldwork across the country. He also created costumes and set designs for Albanian films.
Nini contributed to many productions, including “Një jetë më shumë,” “Fillim i vështirë,” “Kur po xhirohej një film,” “Një ndodhi në port,” “Tela për violinë,” “Qortimet e vjeshtës,” “Dollia e dasmës sime,” “Fejesa e Blertës,” “Gjurma,” “Pylli i lirisë,” and “Dritat e qytezës.”
