Actor Gjergji Lala Passes Away at 79

Gjergji Lala, one of the well-known figures of Albanian cinematography, has died at the age of 79.

He passed away in a hospital in Italy after a long illness. The news marks the end of a career that spanned decades in both theatre and film.

Audiences remember Lala especially for his role as Mihal Grameno in the 1979 film “Liri a Vdekje”, where he acted alongside Timo Flloko under directors Kristaq Mitro and Ibrahim Muçaj.

He also appeared in several other films, including “Kush vdes në Këmbë”, “Lumi që nuk shteron”, “Gjurmë në kaltërsi”, “Nusja dhe shtetrrethimi”, and “Dy krisma në Paris”.

Born in Lushnjë in 1947, Lala built a long career in theatre and film. He later lived in Italy, where he continued acting in films and television productions.

In addition, he took part in international productions, including Ridley Scott’s “House of Gucci”, alongside actors such as Al Pacino and Adam Driver.

His final film role was in “Palazzina Laf”, released in 2023.
