After William Walker, former congressman DioGuardi proposes Faton Bislimi for Kosova president

TIRANA, August 28 – Former US congressman Joseph DioGuardi has proposed Faton Bislimi for president of Kosova. His proposal follows a similar move by retired US ambassador and former head of the OSCE Verification Mission in Kosova, William G. Walker.

Bislimi is a Kosova academic, former member of the Kosova Assembly and public figure with experience in political, civic and international affairs. In a letter to Kosova’s political leaders, DioGuardi called for consensus on the next president and warned against another cycle of institutional deadlock and repeated elections.

The former Republican congressman urged political leaders to assess Bislimi on his merits rather than political or personal preferences. He said Kosova needs a president who can unite the country, represent all citizens and communities, and work with both government and opposition.

DioGuardi said he has known Bislimi for more than two decades. He highlighted his education in North America, including Harvard, his experience with US democratic institutions and his service in the Kosova Assembly. He also cited Bislimi’s political, academic, civic and international work.

At the same time, the former congressman described Bislimi as an independent figure capable of building bridges between political forces, generations, the Kosova diaspora and international partners. He sent the letter to the leaders of the Self-Determination Movement, Democratic Party of Kosova, Democratic League of Kosova and Alliance for the Future of Kosova.
