Albania advances green finance framework with European Investment Bank support

TIRANA, April 24 – Albania’s Financial Supervisory Authority held talks with the European Investment Bank on developing a national green investment guide and strengthening sustainable finance standards.

The meeting brought together experts from the European Investment Bank, led by Alessandro de Concini, the institution’s representative in Albania. Discussions focused on progress in the national green taxonomy, supported through a programme linked to green recovery and European Union integration efforts.

The head of the Financial Supervisory Authority, Adela Xhemali, welcomed the bank’s technical and financial support in developing the taxonomy for sustainable finance. She linked the initiative to obligations under the financial services chapter of Albania’s EU accession framework.

Both sides also reviewed priorities for aligning Albania’s financial sector with European Union legislation. They explored ways to deepen cooperation and expand institutional partnership in sustainable finance.

The Financial Supervisory Authority said the European Investment Bank plays a central role in supporting green transition efforts. It added that the partnership contributes to financial system development and Albania’s broader integration process with the European Union.
