Albania and Italy are expanding customs cooperation by focusing on digital systems, electronic data exchange and the use of artificial intelligence in customs operations.
Director General of the Albanian Customs Administration Besmir Beja met with Roberto Alesse, Director General of the Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency, during an official visit to Italy.
The two sides highlighted more than 25 years of successful cooperation and discussed ways to deepen their long-standing partnership.
Beja also held meetings with senior officials from the Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency and representatives of the Guardia di Finanza to strengthen cooperation in key priority areas.
The discussions focused on modernising customs systems, improving electronic data exchange, enhancing risk management, introducing artificial intelligence into customs procedures and implementing new EU customs systems to increase efficiency, security and facilitate trade.
Italy remains one of Albania’s main partners in customs modernisation, providing technical assistance, expertise, training and support to align Albanian customs legislation and procedures with European Union standards.
