Prime Minister Edi Rama reaffirmed Albania’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda and European Union integration. He described both as part of a single transformation process.
In a video message for the 2026 Sustainable Development Goals Moment, Rama said poverty had fallen from 23.7% in 2018 to 19%. He also said infant mortality had halved. More than 95% of public services now operate online, he added.
Meanwhile, Rama said almost all electricity comes from renewable sources. Women hold 35% of seats in the Assembly of Albania and nearly half of government cabinet positions. Albania ranks 44th globally in the 2026 Sustainable Development Goals Index, according to Rama.
To accelerate the transformation, Albania has committed 6 million US dollars to the Sustainable Development Goals Acceleration Fund. The funding will focus on child protection, preparing businesses for the European Union single market, revitalizing local communities, and fighting organized crime and corruption.
In addition, Albania has signed a new United Nations Cooperation Framework for 2027–2031. Rama said the framework aims to ensure sustainable and inclusive development that leaves no one behind.
