Albania electricity distribution losses fall to 15.6% in 2026

Electricity distribution losses in Albania fell to 15.6% in the first eight months of 2026, according to data from the Electricity Distribution System Operator. The figure marks a continued improvement from 18.93% in 2023, 17.93% in 2024 and 16.96% in 2025.

Regional data also show lower losses. Fier recorded the lowest rate at 9.5%, followed by Korça at 9.63% and Tirana at 9.85%. Durrës recorded 14.78%, while Gjirokastër and Vlora each recorded 14.65%. Berat stood at 12.29% and Elbasan at 10.99%.

Meanwhile, losses also declined in regions with higher rates. Kukës recorded 34.9%, down from 40.88% in 2025 and 42.42% in 2024. Shkodër fell to 29.06% from 31.29%, while Burrel declined to 22.56% from 24.21%.

The operator expects the improvement to continue through the rest of the year. It projects distribution losses of around 15.9% for 2026. The decline in losses indicates improved efficiency in Albania’s electricity distribution network.
