There are 28,000 more women than men in Albania. Although birth statistics in recent years show a ratio in which boys outnumber girls, at the end of 2025 there were 1,182,000 women and 1,154,000 men.
At the end of 2025, Albania’s resident population stood at 2,336,000. Compared with the end of 2024, the male population decreased by 1.3%, while the female population fell by 1.0%.
The natural population increase in 2025 was positive, with 1,063 more births than deaths among women and 84 more among men.
Higher emigration among men and longer life expectancy among women are the main reasons behind the reversal of the gender ratio.
Women also have a notable presence in education, with 65% having higher education. However, when it comes to politics, women accounted for only one-third of Parliament.
