TIRANA, April 24 – The Albanian government has approved new measures increasing financial rewards for elite athletes and their coaches, with implementation expected in April 2026.
The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport, Blendi Gonxhja, said the revised scheme introduces higher and more structured support for athletes across multiple disciplines. He said the system aims to improve fairness and motivation.
Authorities increased non-Olympic sport support by 75 percent. They also raised coach rewards by 25 percent and lifted daily food allowances for elite athletes by 43 percent, from 3,500 Lek to 5,000 Lek.
The new framework introduces additional performance-based increases, including up to 200 percent for selected results in European championships and a full doubling for Olympic and world championship outcomes. Officials said total rewards may reach up to 230 percent under combined conditions.
