Albania pledges stronger environmental policies in regional cooperation push

TIRANA, April 22 – Environment Minister Sofjan Jaupaj hosted a regional meeting in Albania. Participants included representatives from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. International partners also joined the talks. The discussions focused on environmental cooperation in the Mediterranean region.

Jaupaj said the platform aims to strengthen regional cooperation. He said the region faces shared environmental challenges. He stressed the need for long-term and sustainable solutions. He added that nature does not recognise national borders.

The minister linked Albania’s position to its European Union integration process. He said the country is moving away from fragmented approaches. He said the focus is now on integrated environmental policies. He added that these policies support sustainable development.

Jaupaj said the region is facing a key moment. He said environmental, economic, and social pressures are overlapping. He said this increases the need for cooperation. He highlighted the MedProgramme initiative as an important framework for future action.
