The Ministry of Health and Social Protection (MSHMS) held a technical consultation with gender equality officers from central public institutions as part of the review of the Action Plan for the National Gender Equality Strategy 2026–2030.
The revised Action Plan aims to strengthen measures against gender-based violence, promote women’s economic empowerment, and increase participation in decision-making. In addition, it introduces clearer objectives, standardized indicators, and stronger links to public policies and budgeting processes to ensure measurable results.
The National Gender Equality Strategy 2021–2030 remains the government’s main policy framework for advancing gender equality and empowering women and girls across Albania.
The ministry developed the strategy in cooperation with government institutions, local authorities, independent bodies, civil society organizations, academia, and international partners. As a result, it seeks to guarantee equal opportunities for all citizens regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, disability, religion, or sexual orientation.
Furthermore, the strategy builds on the achievements of the 2016–2020 framework and promotes an inclusive society where people live free from discrimination, harmful practices, gender-based violence, and domestic violence.
The government considers gender equality a key pillar of sustainable development. Therefore, the strategy supports Albania’s national development goals, European integration process, and international commitments under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.
Moreover, the planned measures are aligned with the European Union Gender Equality Strategy. Consequently, they aim to strengthen public policies and increase the participation of women and girls in social, economic, and political life.
