London hosted “Albania Through Byron’s Eyes,” an ethno-musical and theatrical production that combined history, poetry, music, and Albanian cultural heritage.
The event attracted a large audience and received a warm response from both the Albanian and British communities.
Furthermore, the production, organized by Empowered Women of Diaspora in partnership with British Albanian Youth & Culture and supported by the National Diaspora Agency, brought Albania’s National Ensemble of Folk Songs and Dances to London for the first time since the fall of communism.
Inspired by Lord Byron’s Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage, the performance presented Albania through the poet’s perspective, highlighting the country’s values of freedom, honor, hospitality, and the role of women in preserving national identity.
British-Kosovar actor and writer Robert Wilton portrayed Lord Byron and guided the audience through Albania’s history, poetry, and culture.
Meanwhile, tenor Aranit Hoxha and soprano Denisa Gjezo enriched the evening with emotional musical performances. Traditional songs and dances performed by the National Ensemble created a memorable atmosphere and earned long applause from the audience.
In addition, the event featured an Albanian folk dance workshop, where both Albanians and London residents explored traditional dance techniques and rhythms.
The program also included a fashion show featuring traditional Albanian costumes worn by 12 Albanian women living in London. The display highlighted the richness and diversity of traditional clothing from different Albanian regions.
Overall, the event strengthened cultural ties between Albania and the United Kingdom while promoting Albanian history, folklore, and traditions to an international audience.
