TIRANA, July 14 – Albania is set to provisionally close its first 3 European Union negotiation chapters during the 9th Albania–EU Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels today.
Prime Minister Edi Rama said the country has reached an important stage in its European integration process. He added that Albania continues its progress towards EU membership.
Meanwhile, the EU Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER) approved on July 10 the EU Common Position for closing negotiations on Chapter 25 “Science and Research”, Chapter 26 “Education and Culture” and Chapter 30 “External Relations”.
The decision confirms Albania’s progress with reforms and its alignment with EU standards. It also reflects the country’s efforts to advance the European Agenda 2030.
Earlier, Albania opened accession talks at the first Intergovernmental Conference with the EU on July 19, 2022. Since then, the country has advanced through 8 conferences that covered key areas, including justice, fundamental rights, the internal market, competitiveness, the green agenda, agriculture and external relations.
In addition, the 9th conference marks the beginning of the chapter-closing phase. The step brings Albania closer to its strategic goal of full membership in the European Union.
