Albania to close fourth EU accession chapter today

Albania expects to provisionally close Chapter 20 of its European Union accession negotiations today in Luxembourg. Prime Minister Edi Rama will attend the 10th Intergovernmental Conference between Albania and the EU.

Rama described the move as another step towards EU membership. The closure would bring Albania’s total to 4 provisionally closed chapters. The country aims to conclude accession negotiations by the end of 2027.

Chapter 20 covers enterprise and industrial policy, business support, innovation and economic competitiveness.

Meanwhile, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said the EU enlargement process was moving forward. She confirmed plans for intergovernmental conferences with Montenegro, Albania, Moldova and Ukraine. Kos added that leading candidate countries were meeting their commitments and the EU was doing its part.

The conference is scheduled to open at 17:00 local time and conclude at 17:45. Rama will then hold a press conference with Kos and Irish Minister Thomas Byrne.
