Albania’s women’s national football team learned their opponents for the first and second rounds of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 play-offs on Thursday.
Following the draw at UEFA headquarters, Albania will face Wales in the first round. If the Albanian side advances, it will meet the winner of the Romania–Norway tie in the second round.
Head coach Armir Grima said the team already knows Wales well. He recalled Albania’s strong performance against the Welsh side in Elbasan and expressed confidence that the team can compete for qualification.
“We played a very respectable match against Wales in Elbasan. We will fight for our chances, give our maximum effort and hopefully have a bit of luck to overcome this opponent,” Grima said.
Meanwhile, the coach acknowledged the strength of all potential opponents. However, he stressed that Albania will enter every match determined to deliver its best performance.
Grima noted that both Norway and Romania are strong teams that Albania has faced before. Nevertheless, he emphasized that the team’s immediate focus remains on Wales.
“I am very proud of the players and the results they have achieved. They deserve this opportunity because they have worked extremely hard. However, we still have more to give and must make another big effort to show that our national team continues to grow and improve,” he added.
As Albania prepares for the play-offs, the squad aims to build on its recent progress and take another important step toward a historic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
