Albanian Banks Association condemns violence against bank branches in Tirana

The Albanian Banks Association (AAB) has condemned violence and damage to bank branches and financial facilities during recent unrest in Tirana. It called for measures to protect employees and customers and ensure uninterrupted banking services.

In a public statement, the AAB stressed that peaceful assembly, protest and freedom of expression are fundamental rights. However, it said people must exercise these rights peacefully and in accordance with the law.

The association described violence against financial institutions as unacceptable. It warned that such acts threaten staff and customer safety and disrupt normal banking operations.

The AAB urged protesters to avoid violence and called on the relevant authorities to prevent further incidents and ensure public safety. “Protecting employees and customers, respecting private property and ensuring the continuity of banking services are essential under all circumstances,” the statement said.

The association also reassured customers that their banking relationships remain secure and unaffected by recent events. It reaffirmed its support for peaceful protest and the free expression of public demands, provided people respect the law, public safety and public and private property.
