TIRANA, June 4 – Representatives of the Albanian Customs Administration took part in a regional meeting on firearms trafficking held on 2–3 June in Sarajevo. The event took place under the South Eastern and Eastern Europe Clearinghouse for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SEESAC) project. It also received support from the European Union and the Regional Cooperation Council. In addition, Albanian Customs said the meeting brought together border security experts, customs administrations and international organisations. Participants discussed new challenges in combating trafficking of firearms, ammunition and related components, while also focusing on strengthening regional cooperation.
At the same time, Albanian Customs representatives presented their technical experience. They described work on customs control strengthening, risk management and interinstitutional cooperation to improve border security. Meanwhile, the administration said participation in such forums supports exchange of best practices and improves coordination among institutions responsible for preventing illicit trafficking.
Finally, the meeting formed part of wider regional efforts to strengthen security and fight cross-border organised crime.
