Albanian Parliament Opens Third Session of 11th Legislature, Peleshi: EU Membership Is the Number One Priority

The Albanian Parliament opened the third session of its 11th Legislature today, resuming parliamentary activity following the recess.

At the first plenary sitting of the new session, Speaker of Parliament Niko Peleshi delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing Parliament’s responsibility to continue working in the interests of citizens and the country.

Peleshi described Albania’s membership in the European Union as Parliament’s number one priority, stressing that the country has made its European choice and must now continue working toward achieving that objective.

“Albania has chosen Europe; now we must do the work that will take us there,” Peleshi said.

The Speaker also emphasized the need for a Parliament that is more active, more open to citizens, and characterized by greater accountability and responsibility.

“This session must be another step forward in strengthening the role of Parliament, improving the quality of lawmaking and fulfilling our responsibilities toward citizens,” he said.

Peleshi also highlighted the importance of parliamentary dialogue, institutional cooperation and respect for the role of institutions, stressing that citizens expect concrete action and results from their representatives.

The new parliamentary session begins with a packed agenda, with Parliament expected to continue reviewing legislative initiatives, reforms and issues of national importance.

Concluding his remarks, Peleshi stressed that Parliament’s work should be measured by concrete results that serve both citizens and Albania.
