Finance Minister Petrit Malaj has presented the draft 2027 budget to the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs, with spending projected to reach around €10 billion for the first time. The main priorities will be supporting pensioners, children with disabilities, and families with young children.
During his presentation, Malaj announced that one of the main changes concerns pension indexation, which is expected to take place in April 2027 instead of July, as is currently the case.
In addition, the monthly bonus for pensioners is expected to double starting in January next year.
According to the minister, these two measures alone — pension indexation and the doubling of the monthly bonus — will cost the state budget approximately 24 billion lek, or €250 million.
“One of our main priorities remains the continued support of the elderly. Pensions hold a special place in the 2027 budget. Our aim is to increase pensioners’ incomes,” Malaj stated.
The minister also announced that social security and health insurance contributions will be recognized for caregivers of children with disabilities.
Meanwhile, the baby bonus policy will continue, but under a new scheme providing monthly financial support until children reach the age of five.
“Payments for children with disabilities will be doubled, continuing a policy we introduced in July this year. Social security and health insurance contributions will also be recognized for their caregivers. We will continue the baby bonus policy, but this time through monthly support until the age of five,” Malaj said.
The draft 2027 budget is expected to undergo further discussions in parliamentary committees before being reviewed and approved by Parliament.
