Albania’s Defence Minister Nufi: Ground and air operations continue to fight wildfires

TIRANA, August 17 – Albania’s Armed Forces continue intensive ground and air operations to fight wildfires in several parts of the country, Defence Minister Ermal Nufi said.

Nufi shared footage of aerial firefighting operations in areas with difficult terrain. On Mount Dajti in Tirana, 50 Armed Forces personnel and 2 Air Force helicopters are supporting the operation. Authorities report no risk to populated areas.

Meanwhile, teams continue their work in Lufaj, Mirdita Municipality, with 2 Armed Forces firefighting vehicles and 9 personnel. The fire currently poses no risk to homes. In Fushë-Laja, Puka Municipality, 40 Armed Forces personnel are taking part in the operation. Authorities also report no risk to populated areas there.
