Albania’s foreign minister Hoxha meets Austrian, Czech and Slovak counterparts, strong backing for EU path

TIRANA, April 30 – Albania’s Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha hosted counterparts from Austria, Czech Republic and Slovakia in Tirana. Beate Meinl-Reisinger, Petr Macinka and Juraj Blanár joined him in a joint media statement. They confirmed continued support for Albania’s European Union path.

At the start, Hoxha described the visit as a clear sign of political backing. He linked it to long-standing cooperation and support for EU enlargement. He also thanked the three countries for their consistent position on Albania’s accession.

He then referred to the Slavkov format, known as S3. He described it as a platform that strengthens regional and European cooperation. He added that it helped create the “Friends of the Western Balkans” group, which supports the region’s EU perspective.

Turning to Albania’s priorities, Hoxha said EU membership remains the main strategic goal. He stressed that institutions aim to maintain the current pace. He added that completing key benchmarks will open the way to the next phase, including the closing of chapters. He underlined that the process must stay merit-based.

He also addressed regional issues. He highlighted the importance of stability and cooperation in the Western Balkans. He said all countries in the region need a clear EU perspective.

In the same context, he referred to energy links and transport corridors as shared priorities. He also spoke about migration and border management. He said Albania is strengthening its capacities and working closely with the European Union.

In conclusion, Hoxha said the Western Balkans belong to Europe’s future. He added that EU enlargement is now a strategic necessity. He stressed that Albania and its partners aim to move the process forward without delay.
