ALL 8.9 billion added to health and social welfare budget, focus on salary increases

TIRANA, July 3 – The health and social welfare budget for 2026 increases by 8.9 billion lek compared with the initial projection for the same year. The Ministry of Health and Social Protection records this as the largest increase for the sector.

The ministry says the additional funding aims to directly improve patient care, strengthen healthcare services, and expand social support for families. It links the rise in financing to broader efforts to raise service quality nationwide.

At the same time, the ministry highlights the continuation of its salary increase policy in the health system. The policy started in January 2026. It also includes further wage increases for emergency service personnel across the country.

In addition, the new budget doubles disability payments for children. The measure covers 10,240 children with disabilities and expands direct financial support for vulnerable groups.

Meanwhile, the ministry confirms recognition of social and health insurance contributions for 14,657 caregivers of persons with disabilities. The step strengthens long-term social protection for this category.

Furthermore, the financing supports new investments in medical infrastructure and equipment. The goal is to modernize hospitals and primary healthcare services and standardize care across the country.
