The Holy Synod of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania, under the presidency of His Beatitude, the Archbishop of Tirana, Durrës and All Albania, Archbishop Joan of Albania, convened today, April 28, 2026, and unanimously elected Archimandrite Ignat (Todri) as Bishop of the Holy Episcopate of Amantia, who, according to the Church’s Statute, will be a member of the Holy Synod.
The ordination of the newly elected Bishop will take place on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at the Resurrection of Christ Cathedral in Tirana.
Brief biography
The newly elected Bishop of Amantia, Ignat, was born on February 23, 1978, in Gradishtë, Divjakë. He completed his general education in the Fier-Seman area. In 1998, he pursued studies at the Theological Academy “Resurrection of Christ” in Shën Vlash, Durrës.
From 2003 to 2017, he served as a catechist and preacher in the cities and villages of the Holy Metropolis of Berat, Vlorë, and Kaninë.
In April 2017, he followed the call to full monastic dedication and was tonsured as a monk and ordained hierodeacon by the late Metropolitan Ignat of Berat, Vlorë, and Kaninë, whom he served with devotion and dedication.
He was ordained Hieromonk on December 12, 2024, by the Metropolitan of Berat, Vlorë, and Kaninë, His Grace Asti.
On June 1, 2025, His Beatitude Archbishop Joan conferred upon him the title of Archimandrite.
Throughout this period, he has held important duties and responsibilities in the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania: as Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod, head of the Theological Academy “Resurrection of Christ” at the Monastery of Shën Vlash, as well as administrator of the Resurrection of Christ Cathedral in Tirana.
In addition to his native language, he speaks English, Italian, Greek, and German.
