Balla Meets Law Students: European Integration Enters Decisive Phase

Taulant Balla met law students from European Law Students’ Association in Tirana on Sunday. The meeting took place within the National Council for European Integration.

Balla said Albania has entered a decisive stage in the EU integration process. He pointed to the upcoming 8th Intergovernmental Conference with the European Union and said it will move the country closer to membership.

He said Albanians have already built strong links with Europe. Thousands of citizens live, work and study in EU countries. According to Balla, this has made European integration part of daily life in Albania.

Officials presented progress in negotiations and reviewed Albania’s work to align laws with EU standards.

Balla said the Parliament of Albania continues to play a key role. He noted that Parliament reviewed 163 draft laws in 2025. He added that the Committee on Europe and Foreign Affairs held 24 meetings and reviewed 18 bills linked to integration.

Balla also spoke about justice reform. He said the vetting of judges and prosecutors continues to strengthen accountability and integrity in the justice system.

The meeting also marked the 180th anniversary of Naim Frashëri. Balla said it is meaningful that Albania advances toward the EU during a year that honors one of the country’s leading national figures.

He also discussed the opening session of the World Law Congress, held earlier this month. He said the event brings international legal experts and academics to Albania and highlights the country’s progress on democracy and the rule of law.

Balla encouraged young lawyers to prepare for the EU integration process. He stressed the need for strong knowledge of European law and modern legal standards.
