BBC highlights Albania’s “Nan” among most emotional entries in Eurovision 2026

TIRANA, May 11 – BBC has published an extensive guide to the 35 competing songs in Eurovision Song Contest 2026 and has given special attention to Albania’s entry “Nan” by Alis. The British broadcaster placed Albania in its category of songs with culturally rich lyrics and described “Nan” as one of the most emotionally powerful stories of the year, linking it to the Festival of Song on RTSH and noting that it tells the story of a mother waiting for her child to return from migration while highlighting that Alis performs the song with strong sincerity and passion.

Meanwhile, BBC connected the theme of migration with Albania’s post-1991 transition history and said this context strengthens the emotional depth of the entry, while also grouping it with other culturally driven performances from countries such as Croatia and Portugal that draw on historical and traditional elements.

Eurovision Song Contest 2026 began this week in Vienna with the first semi-finals and brings together 35 countries competing for a place in the final, as organizers confirmed that all tickets for the grand final sold out within 14 minutes. Eurovision Director Martin Green said the demand reflects the festival’s role in shared European cultural experience, while commentary from the Euro Trip podcast pointed to a tenser atmosphere in recent editions but underlined that music continues to connect audiences across Europe.
