President Begaj praised the forum as a valuable platform that strengthens interfaith dialogue and promotes peace, mutual understanding, and cooperation across Europe.
He said Albania stands as a model of religious harmony, peaceful coexistence, and hospitality. He added that these values define the country’s identity and encouraged the delegates to experience them firsthand during their visit.
The President stressed that Albanian society preserved its faith through the darkest years of history. He noted that the communist dictatorship declared Albania the world’s first atheist state and destroyed or repurposed places of worship. Yet it never erased the Albanian people’s belief in God.
Begaj also highlighted the importance of respecting the beliefs of others. He praised the Interreligious Council of Albania for strengthening dialogue and cooperation among the country’s faith communities.
He concluded by saying that, as the world faces growing challenges, polarization, and conflict, interfaith dialogue remains a powerful tool for building trust, solidarity, and lasting peace. He said Albania will continue to promote its unique model of religious harmony and peaceful coexistence.
