Belgian daily Nieuwsblad: Five days in Albania reveal beaches, history and hospitality

TIRANA, June 19 – Belgian newspaper Nieuwsblad describes Albania as a rapidly developing destination that combines natural beauty, cultural heritage and authentic traditions. The report follows a five-day journey across the country, highlighting both Albania’s strengths and areas that still need improvement.

According to Nieuwsblad, the trip began in Tirana and continued through several destinations, including Kokomani Winery, Bovilla Lake, Kruja, Berat, Apollonia, Vlora and Durrës. The newspaper notes the country’s growing tourism sector, warm hospitality and diverse landscapes, which range from mountains and lakes to coastal areas.

Meanwhile, the report highlights Albania’s culinary traditions and wine production. Journalists praised local cuisine for blending Turkish, Greek and Italian influences into a distinct Albanian identity. They also pointed to family-run wineries as examples of the country’s developing tourism offer.

In addition, Nieuwsblad focuses on Albania’s history and culture. The newspaper describes Kruja as a centre of national heritage and presents Berat as one of the country’s most remarkable historic destinations. The report also underlines the importance of archaeological sites such as Apollonia.

At the same time, the newspaper notes the growing international attention on Albania’s coastline. The article references plans by Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner to develop a resort on Sazan Island, a project that has sparked debate among parts of the local population.
