Blue Economy Summit in Orikum: Gonxhja Highlights Marine Tourism as a Year-Round Source of Investment and Jobs

Marine tourism and the potential of sailing marinas to boost Albania’s economy took centre stage at the Balkan Blue Economy Summit, held at Marina Orikum as part of the “Balkans Sea Fair.”

Tourism, Culture and Sports Minister Blendi Gonxhja said marine tourism could attract more investment, improve service quality and create jobs for coastal communities.

He also highlighted strong growth in tourism revenue, which has more than doubled in three years. Meanwhile, overnight stays outside the peak summer season have increased by around 78%.

Gonxhja stressed that Albania aims to turn this growth into tangible economic benefits throughout the year. He added that more yachts docking, refuelling and receiving maintenance services in Albania would generate additional revenue for local businesses and create economic opportunities for Albanian families.

The “Balkans Sea Fair” continues along the Vlora coast until Oct. 18, bringing together sailing, adventure, business and entertainment. The event aims to promote the region’s maritime and tourism potential.
