The General Directorate of Customs and the American Chamber of Commerce in Albania held the Business-Customs Forum today. Participants focused on European integration, digital transformation of customs services, and measures to simplify procedures for businesses.
The forum brought together customs officials and business representatives. They discussed customs procedures, the investment climate, and challenges facing international trade.
Besmir Beja presented the customs administration’s strategic priorities within the European integration process. He stressed that aligning customs legislation with EU acquis rules and modernizing information technology systems remain essential goals. In addition, he said these reforms will improve efficiency, transparency, and risk management.
Meanwhile, Neritan Mullaj highlighted the importance of continuous dialogue between businesses and customs authorities. He described the forum as a valuable mechanism for addressing issues that affect economic activity and market competitiveness.
Furthermore, Alketa Uruçi outlined the main concerns raised by businesses during 2026. She emphasized the need for sustainable solutions that provide security and predictability for economic operators.
Business representatives also acknowledged the progress made by the customs administration. They noted improvements in digital services, shorter processing times, and greater institutional transparency. As a result, these measures have helped facilitate trade and improve the business environment.
In addition, participants reviewed the implementation of the New Computerised Transit System (NCTS). They described the system as an important step toward modernizing transit procedures and increasing transparency in trade exchanges.
Finally, the customs administration encouraged AmCham member companies to apply for Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Status certification. This status offers procedural simplifications and trade advantages to businesses that meet the required standards.
