Çano: Germany provides €29 million in new support for development and reforms

Albania and Germany concluded Development Cooperation negotiations. They signed a new Cooperation Protocol for 2026–2028. This marks a key step in strengthening their long-term partnership.

Eridana Çano, Director General of SASPAC, signed the protocol. Heike Backofen-Warnecke, representative of Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), also signed it.

Çano said the protocol provides €29 million in new support. It combines investment financing and technical assistance. It focuses on skills development and private sector growth. It also supports the green and energy transition. It backs reforms linked to EU integration.

She said both sides confirmed a €51 million project to improve energy infrastructure. They agreed to continue talks in 2026 on an additional €50 million for the sector.

Backofen-Warnecke said the agreement supports Albania’s path to the European Union. She praised the Albanian negotiating team after two days of intensive and productive talks.

She said cooperation will continue in key areas. These include energy and climate, rural development, vocational education, and the private sector. It will strengthen bilateral ties and support sustainable development.

The partnership continues to deliver concrete results. It supports Albania’s EU integration path.
