TIRANA, July 29 – British broadcaster Channel 4 interviewed Prime Minister Edi Rama about the proposed investment in Zvërnec, focusing on environmental concerns and the project’s current status.
Rama told Channel 4 that authorities have not approved a final project for Zvërnec. He also said Sazan Island is not part of any active development plan and described its inclusion in the debate as unnecessary.
Meanwhile, the prime minister said the process has advanced beyond the initial concept. He explained that internationally recognized architects and landscape designers now support the planning work. He added that an independent environmental impact assessment is also underway.
Rama told Channel 4 that the project aims to regenerate the area rather than damage it. He stressed that any future development must comply with European Union environmental standards.
In addition, he said the preparatory works in Zvërnec do not mark the start of construction. According to Rama, the activity serves preliminary technical purposes before authorities decide on any permit.
The interview also addressed recent environmental protests, the legal framework for strategic investments and Albania’s European Union accession process. Rama said public institutions will evaluate the project against environmental, geological and hydrological criteria before taking any final decision.
