Chinese Billionaire Dies in Car Accident in Xibrakë

Li Jianhong, chairman and president of Xinjiang Grand Scape Group, has died in a car accident in Albania during a business trip, Chinese media report.

The incident occurred on Monday on the Librazhd–Elbasan road, near Xibrakë. According to reports, the 60-year-old died at the scene, while six other people were injured. Police have arrested the 26-year-old driver of the other vehicle in flagrante, on charges of violating traffic rules.

Li Jianhong was one of the most prominent entrepreneurs in the Xinjiang region and the founder of the Silkroad Mountain Resort in Urumqi. The company he led operates in the telecommunications, tourism, and investment sectors, growing into an enterprise with total assets of around 1.4 billion yuan (approximately $205 million), about 2,500 employees, and billion-yuan revenues in recent years.

In addition to his business activities, Li was also known as a mountaineer and adventurer. He had completed the Explorer’s Grand Slam, climbing the seven highest peaks in the world, including Mount Everest and K2, and had also reached both poles of the Earth.

Albanian authorities continue their investigation to fully clarify the circumstances of the incident.
