TIRANA, August 11 – Albania has increased funding for civil emergencies more than 13-fold over the past seven years. The budget rose from ALL 430 million in 2020 to ALL 5.79 billion in 2026, Finance Minister Petrit Malaj said on Monday.
Malaj said the higher funding will strengthen capacity to respond to wildfires, floods, natural disasters and other emergencies. He added that municipalities also have larger funds for emergency interventions across their territories. Meanwhile, stronger fiscal results this year have created additional budget space for unexpected needs without affecting other priorities, the minister said.
The government aims to strengthen both funding and operational capacity. This approach will improve the country’s preparedness during periods of increased wildfire and natural disaster risks. “Albania is financially more prepared than ever to deal with emergencies,” Malaj said.
