Civil Protection reports eight active wildfires across Albania

TIRANA, August 7 – Albania’s Civil Protection Agency reported eight active wildfires across the country on Thursday, while firefighters brought several blazes under control in Elbasan County.

Firefighting operations continue on Mount Dajti near Tirana. The response includes 30 firefighters, 10 staff from the Protected Areas Administration and an Albanian Air Force helicopter.

Meanwhile, a wildfire remains active in the village of Cikallesh near Kavaja because of difficult terrain. Fire crews from Kavaja, Rrogozhina and Vora continue ground operations. An Air Tractor firefighting aircraft also supports the effort as the flames threaten nearby homes.

Authorities also continue operations in the Riban–Ngraçan–Panahor area of Mallakastra. Firefighters, Armed Forces personnel and two helicopters are working from the ground and the air. Civil Protection said the fire has burned about 180 hectares of pine forest.

In addition, crews continue to battle a wildfire in Kostren 2, Berat County. Three fire engines and 20 firefighters remain on site.

Meanwhile, Civil Protection said firefighters have contained or isolated the fires in Shqiponjë, Mount Dardha and Mjekës in Elbasan Municipality. The agency added that those blazes no longer threaten nearby communities.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation and will maintain operations until they extinguish all active wildfires.
