COREPER approved the provisional closure of three chapters in Albania’s European Union accession negotiations, pushing the country another step forward on its path toward membership.
The Agency for Media and Information (MIA) announced that the Committee of Permanent Representatives of EU member states endorsed the EU’s Common Position on closing negotiations for Chapter 25 (Science and Research), Chapter 26 (Education and Culture), and Chapter 30 (External Relations).
The decision highlights the European Union’s recognition of Albania’s progress in implementing reforms, aligning legislation with EU standards and strengthening its institutions throughout the accession process.
In particular, the closure of Chapter 25 reflects Albania’s efforts to develop scientific research, promote innovation, increase investment in knowledge and technology, and deepen cooperation with the European Research Area.
Meanwhile, Chapter 26 recognizes Albania’s work to modernize education and culture policies, improve quality and inclusion across the education system, support youth development and align national priorities with European standards.
In addition, the approval of Chapter 30 confirms Albania’s progress in aligning its foreign policy and international agreements with EU positions, reinforcing its role as a reliable partner of the European Union.
Furthermore, MIA emphasized that the decision represents more than a technical step in negotiations, as it sends a strong political message of EU support for Albania’s reform efforts and European future.
Finally, the three chapters will receive provisional closure during the Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels on July 14, marking another significant milestone in Albania’s journey toward full EU membership.
