TIRANA, May 9 – President of the Council of Europe Antonio Costa sent a message to Albania on Europe Day, describing the occasion as a moment to reflect on shared European values and the progress of aspiring countries toward integration.
Addressing Albanian citizens as future members of the European Union, Costa said Europe Day celebrates a common European project built on unity, cooperation, peace, freedom, and prosperity after World War II. At the same time, he highlighted Albania’s progress in accession negotiations during the past year and encouraged institutions and citizens to maintain the pace of reforms.
According to Costa, the European Union believes Albania’s future lies within the bloc. He stressed that intensive work continues toward this objective and expressed confidence in a shared European future. His message came as Albania advances in the accession process after opening all negotiation clusters and continuing efforts to strengthen democratic institutions, reinforce the rule of law, and meet European standards.
Europe Day, marked every 9 May, symbolises peace, unity, and cooperation among European countries. The date also commemorates the historic declaration of Robert Schuman, which laid the foundations of the European Union.
