Cultural heritage sites exceed 400,000 visitors in five months

TIRANA, June 16 – Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport Blendi Gonxhja said cultural heritage remains one of Albania’s strongest success stories. He referred to the steady rise in visitor numbers at heritage sites.

From January to May 2026, cultural institutions and heritage centres recorded 424,082 visitors. The figure includes domestic and foreign tourists. National museums received 143,086 visitors. Archaeological parks welcomed 188,437 visitors. Castles and cultural monuments recorded 91,559 visitors.

Compared with the same period in 2023, visitor numbers increased by 95.7%. Revenue rose by 147.44% over the same period. Compared with last year, visitor numbers increased by 9.9%, while revenue rose by 7.3%.

Gonxhja said culture represents a strong national success. He described heritage as a source of identity and a growing attraction for international tourism.
