Albania’s Customs Administration is advancing the implementation of the New Computerised Transit System (NCTS), a major step toward integration with the European Union’s Common Transit Convention.
To support the process, customs authorities are conducting dedicated training sessions for system users. In these activities, representatives of the company developing the platform, members of the project working group, the Project Implementation Unit (PIU), and an international expert are working closely together.
During the training, participants are learning how to use the NCTS modules in practice. At the same time, they are discussing technical and procedural issues. In addition, they are coordinating the next steps needed for a smooth and successful rollout.
NCTS represents one of the most important modernizations of customs transit procedures. Through the system, customs administrations and economic operators across Europe can exchange data in real time. As a result, transit procedures will become faster and more efficient.
Moreover, NCTS will reduce paperwork, improve transparency, enhance the traceability of goods, and accelerate the processing of transit declarations. Consequently, businesses will benefit from simpler and more reliable customs procedures.
One of the system’s key innovations is the automation of communication and transit management through standardized electronic messages. Therefore, customs authorities can reduce manual processes while increasing data security and operational efficiency.
Furthermore, the system will strengthen risk management and enable more effective monitoring of transit operations in line with European standards.
According to the Customs Administration, the implementation of NCTS is a crucial part of Albania’s EU integration efforts. Specifically, it is one of the main requirements for joining the Common Transit Convention and aligning customs procedures with EU rules.
Ultimately, the new system will help Albania modernize its customs services, facilitate trade, and strengthen its integration into the European market.
