Defense Minister Nufi unveils Sports Academy Initiative for Armed Forces

TIRANA, August 3 – Defense Minister Ermal Nufi met elite athletes serving in Albania’s Armed Forces to present a new initiative that will introduce sports classes as an extracurricular program at the Armed Forces Academy.

Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Arben Kingji, also attended the meeting. Participants discussed the role of elite athletes in training cadets and military personnel. Nufi said their experience would strengthen the physical, psychological and professional capabilities of the Armed Forces.

Meanwhile, the minister said the athletes would help improve training methods, discipline, competitive spirit and operational readiness. He added that their expertise would also support personnel preparing for operational missions, civil emergencies and international deployments.

In addition, Nufi praised the athletes for representing Albania in international competitions and serving in the Armed Forces. He described their dedication, professionalism and achievements as an example for younger generations.

The initiative plans to establish sports classes at the Armed Forces Academy. The program aims to improve the physical and mental development of cadets and military personnel. It also seeks to raise sports performance, promote athletic activity within the Armed Forces and create representative teams for competitions.

Elite athletes will participate voluntarily as external lecturers, coaches, mentors, motivational speakers or technical advisers. The program will operate in cooperation with the Armed Forces Academy, the Albanian National Olympic Committee and national sports federations. It will cover disciplines including judo, wrestling, boxing, taekwondo, karate, kickboxing, biathlon, military pentathlon, shooting, athletics, weightlifting, gymnastics and team sports.
