Deputy PM Koçiu promotes business financing program during visit to Durrës startup

TIRANA, July 23 – Deputy Prime Minister Albana Koçiu presented the government’s “Double Your Entrepreneurship” program during a visit to a startup in Durrës.

The program aims to improve access to financing for micro, small and medium-sized businesses. It offers loans of up to 200 million lekë per beneficiary, with preferential interest rates of 2–3% and a 10-year repayment period.

Through the Sovereign Guarantee scheme, the state covers up to 70% of the loan value. The measure aims to reduce borrowing costs and encourage businesses to invest and expand.

Meanwhile, the program starts with a 250-million-euro fund and aims to increase this amount to 1 billion euros. It supports businesses across the economy, with priority for agriculture, agro-processing, production, technology, tourism, trade, logistics and private healthcare. Businesses also receive professional assistance to prepare business plans.

Koçiu visited a Durrës company that started as a startup in 2023 by two siblings producing cardboard packaging. The business began with 3 employees and has since expanded its production and workforce.

She said the company represents the type of enterprise the program seeks to support. Koçiu added that many businesses have strong projects but lack the necessary capital, while the new scheme provides easier access to financing.

Applications are open until November 20, 2027, through partner commercial banks. Businesses must have an active NIPT, tax documentation and a business plan to apply.
