Documentary exhibition highlights Albania’s protection of Jewish people during World War II

Albania’s history of protecting Jewish people during World War II took center stage at a documentary exhibition held today at the General Directorate of Archives.

The exhibition highlighted how Albanian families sheltered Jewish people fleeing Nazi persecution and antisemitic terror.

A group of history teachers from Albania and Kosovo attended the event. The organizers used historical documents and photographs to present this chapter of Albania’s past.

The exhibition formed part of a seminar organized by the Association of History Teachers in cooperation with the Institute for the Study of the Crimes and Consequences of Communism (ISKK) and The Olga Lengyel Institute for Holocaust Studies and Human Rights (TOLI).

The documents showed how state authorities helped Jewish people stay safely in Albania during the war. They also presented stories of Albanian families who offered shelter, protection and support.

During their visit, the history teachers also toured the General Directorate of Archives. They learned about the institution’s work and the services it provides to citizens and researchers.

Albania’s wartime protection of Jewish people remains a powerful example of solidarity and humanism. The stories continue to promote universal values of respect for human life and dignity.
