eDreams: Tirana among top choices for Italian tourists during 1 May long weekend

TIRANA, April 28 – With the arrival of summer, the 1 May long weekend marks one of the first opportunities to travel for a few days away from home.

eDreams analysed bookings made during the past month and tracked travel trends among Italian travellers and foreign visitors to Italy.

This year, bookings made by Italian travellers in April increased by 37 percent compared to the same period in 2025.

Around 70 percent of travellers chose stays of three to four days. Meanwhile, 30 percent opted for two-day trips.

Looking at the most popular destinations, Italy leads with 29 percent of total bookings. Spain follows with 19 percent, while Albania accounts for 8 percent.

Within Italy, Catania, Milan, Naples and Rome rank among the top 10 most booked destinations, confirming the appeal of the Italian spring season.

At the international level, Barcelona, Tirana and Paris stand out among the most selected cities.

In terms of year-on-year growth, Italian destinations dominate again. Milan ranks first with a 313 percent increase in bookings. Bucharest follows with 136 percent, while Naples records 135 percent. Malta shows a 131 percent increase and Rome 129 percent.

Interest in visiting Italy is also shared by foreign travellers. Bookings for major art cities increased by 17 percent compared to 2025, led by Spaniards (28 percent), French (23 percent) and Germans (14 percent).

Overall, 74 percent of holidaymakers plan stays of three to four days in major art cities, particularly Naples (86 percent) and Rome (81 percent).

Only 26 percent prefer 48-hour breaks. This option is especially popular among travellers heading to Bologna (42 percent), Venice (35 percent) and Milan (34 percent).
