Education minister Kumbaro announces psychological support for children affected by unrest

Education Minister Mirela Kumbaro said a team of psychologists would support children and families affected by violent protests. She made the announcement during a meeting at the Ministry of Education with Prime Minister Edi Rama and Tirana high school principals.

Kumbaro thanked school leaders for maintaining parents’ trust. She said high schools had recorded higher student attendance than on Friday, when parental fears and panic had kept more children away from school.

Meanwhile, the minister stressed the importance of psychological support for students exposed to disturbing scenes. She said the team would assist families whose children had become involved in violent protests, including teenagers taken into police custody. Kumbaro said the authorities must provide counselling to prevent these experiences from leaving lasting trauma. She also assured school leaders that teachers would complete the full curriculum.

The minister added that schools had strengthened communication with security officers in recent days.
