During a press statement, Kumbaro announced that, through a decision of the Council of Ministers, compensation for teachers involved in the “After School” program has been doubled. According to her, the initiative is currently being piloted in 47 schools, including 45 in Tirana and 2 in Kamza.

The minister stated that the program has now received legal backing following amendments to the pre-university education law, which for the first time includes the concept of an “After School” program.

“This will not happen overnight, but we are gradually building the foundations on which this program will be solidly established,” Kumbaro said.

She explained that for grades 1–5, the program includes a “Homework Support” component, as well as artistic and creative clubs covering music, theater, visual arts, dance, and crafts.

According to data from the Ministry of Education, 308 teachers and approximately 4,500 students are participating in the program across 45 schools in Tirana, while 17 teachers and 240 students are involved in two pilot schools in Kamza. The program is also supported by international partners, including UNICEF and Save the Children.

The State Matura examinations were also a key focus of the minister’s remarks. Kumbaro stated that preparations have entered an intensive phase, including the online publication of sample tests, mock examinations, and enhanced security measures at testing centers.

The Matura exams will take place on June 2, June 9, June 16, and June 23. A total of 144 examination centers have been established nationwide, and more than 170 monitors from the Ministry of Education will be deployed across the country.

Kumbaro also warned of strict disciplinary measures for students who violate examination rules.

“Mobile phones, smartwatches, and any electronic devices are strictly prohibited. Any violation will automatically result in exclusion from the examination,” she said.

According to the minister, the purpose of these measures is to ensure a fair, secure, and orderly examination process for all graduating students across the country.
